About
Rebecca D. Johnson

Growing up in the North Suburbs of Chicago my mother and grandmother were both musicians and educators. Teaching runs in my family and is one of my passions. I saw the impact and power of music and education first hand in my home growing up. I started singing and performing at a young age, in church, school, and my community. My first lead role in a musical was "Mother Abbess" from The Sound of Music at Grayslake Community High School as a sophomore! My first job was singing opera at a restaurant in Chicago. These opportunities lead me to decide to study music at the college level. From there I went to Illinois State University with support from the Illinois General Assembly State Scholarship. During college, I lead worship at Calvary United Methodist Church as the Contemporary Service Music Worship Director. Shortly after graduating I began my dual careers in teaching music in the public schools and starting my private teaching practice shortly after.

Teaching private voice is rewarding work. I enjoy getting to know my students and helping them achieve their goals. Many of my students have gone into music or other prestigious professions. I am proud of the dedication and discipline my students demonstrate. Voice study is more than singing; learning an instrument teaches discipline, self awareness, music reading, theory skills, and more. Currently my studio is located in downtown Bloomington and I love being a part of the downtown Bloomington community!

When I am not teaching voice, I enjoy my time with my son. Spending quality time with my son is something I deeply value. We enjoy playing chess, the old Nintendo video games, and going for walks. I also enjoy learning new things, and have always ventured into different arts disciplines and other subject areas. My other work includes a new business start up in real estate development. Bringing innovative, modern and sustainable housing to Central Illinois is another great passion. My interests in people, nature, and innovation lead me to begin a business in real estate development. My recent venture is a start-up business called COII which stands for Community Of Imaginative Ingenuity. COII is designing sustainably focused high performance homes for future development in the McLean County area. I look forward to you joining the studio and helping you meet your goals!
